The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Dr. Janet Kosgei hosted a team from Mtoto News which is in the county ahead of the children’s devolution conference to offer a platform for the children to air their views on their role in transforming devolution.
The CECM highlighted some of the achievements that the County has attained in the education sector following the start of devolution 10 years ago.
Some of the achievements mentioned by Kosgei include the employment of 1,300 ECDE teachers on permanent and pensionable terms, the construction of ECDE centers as well as the recently launched school milk program.
She further noted that the county has already facilitated the purchase and distribution of learning materials for ECDE learners. “It is because of devolution that ECDE learners are being taken care of,” said the CECM.
Mtoto News are in the county to document some of the progress that Uasin Gishu has made in advancing children's issues.
According to Dennis Wangari, producer of the digital and media platform whose mission is to make children visible, they will be developing a documentary highlighting the benefits of devolution and its impact on children and the community.
“We are also documenting whether children understand devolution or not,” Wangari added.
Uasin Gishu is among the selected counties to feature in the documentary that will be played during the children’s devolution conference scheduled to run from the 3rd to the 7th of July in Kiambu.
Uasin Gishu will be hosting the main Devolution Conference in August.
