About 15,000 residents of Hola Town and its environs have for the last one week faced serious water shortage following the disconnection of electricity at Hola water supply and treatment plant.

Confirming the disconnection, Tana River Water and Sewerage Company managing Director Engineer William Jillo today, said the matter has been reported to the Executive Committee Member for Finance, Brenda Mukaya, for action.

Speaking to the press on telephone Engineer Jillo said, Mukaya has agreed to pay Kenya Power the electricity bill of Sh 4 million as the first tranche before the end of today while the remaining amount will be paid later.

The engineer appealed to water consumers to remain patient as the county government is doing everything possible to offset the debt.

Speaking to the press one of the water consumers in Hola Town Mohammed Komora said, the water Company is to blame for its failure to pay the power bills in good time resulting to the disconnection that has contributed to suffering of the residents for lack of water.

Komora said, many water users are now depending on water vendors who are fetching untreated water from river Tana.

He also said, the residents are currently exposed to the risk of attacks from crocodiles and hippos, thus the need for urgent intervention to retore normalcy.
