Five people killed so far by the elephants

Assistant Director, Southern Conservation Amboseli ecosystem, Aden Kala has called upon the Kajiado county government to implement the spacial plan by enacting it into law to enable Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) fast track protection and conservation of wildlife in the region.
Kala confirmed that since the beginning of this year five people have been killed by elephants.
However the Director reassured the victims of the human- wildlife conflict that the national government has released Sh 908 million to cater for compensation for loss of life as well as for crops destruction countrywide.
He also added that the Ministry of Tourism has allocated kajiado county Sh26 million, for compensation in the last four years.
He called upon the victims to be calm as they wait for the disbursement of the money from the Ministry for compensation
While addressing the media at Kimana House Sanctuary Kajiado County Commissioner, Jude Wasonga said insecurity as well as hostile human- wildlife coexistence can have negative impact by driving investors and tourists away.
Wasonga pointed out not only the hostile relationship will affect investors but can lead to deaths both of wildlife and people.
The County Boss emphasized the need of good coexistence with animals, thus boosting tourism which translate to improvement of the economy.
Wasonga called upon all stakeholders in matters relating to wildlife and the county government of Kajiado to collaborate to reduce the loss of life within Amboseli ecosystem.
The County Commissioner warned the residents against taking law into their hands by killing the wildlife that invade their premises or farms but rather alert Kenya Wildlife Service.
Samuel Kaangia staff working with Big life Foundation noted that the residents are experiencing a major challenge in getting compensation to the families that lost their loved ones.
Kaangi lamented that residents near the conservation are encroaching the wildlife corridor leading to human -wildlife conflicts.
