ForumCIV trains Narok Members of County Assemblies (MCA) and County executives on public private development partnership (PPDP) that aims at reducing poverty and improving living conditions through decent work and access to rights-based services among the rural population in the county.
Addressing the press, the Deputy Governor, Tamalinye Koech said the training aims at bringing in the county leadership together with ForumCIV to address the pressing issues of youth unemployment and promote economic growth within the county.
Tamalinye said the main objective is to harness the collaborative efforts to steer the potential of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the county and to create relevant and quality skills for decent job opportunities.
Further, the Deputy Governor noted that the PPDP will integrate the recently launched county integrated development plans that acts as a county government master plan for projects executions and delivery.
He added that the ForumCIV will enable the MCAs to implement their projects in their respective wards, while fostering sustainability among the local community through partnership with the County government.
The Deputy Governor calls on the locals whenever they hear of such a programme at the grassroot levels to avail themselves for training.
On his part, Isaac Muema, the National program coordinator-inclusive growth through decent work in the Great Rift Valley (PPDP), said the project is implemented in partnership with the Swedish embassy and International Labour Organization (ILO) through ForumCIV in Narok county.
“This is a stakeholders dialogue forum to address the work they have been doing in Narok East particularly Suswa ward, more importantly to buy in the support of different stakeholders in the larger county,” said Muema.
He said the project would look into thematic areas that they need to address such as the unemployment, community engagement, development agendas, adult literacy and to ensure there is seamless support between the stakeholders and the county government.
Muema noted that the project mainly targets the youths, women, however, it improves community participation in the lobbying for and increased access to public and social services in the county.
According to Muema, ForumCIV secure government commitment at both county and national levels; secure commitments with companies and industries to promote demand driven skills development; developing occupational competency standards and reviewing relevant courses that are demand driven based on industry’s skills needs.
Similarly, ForomCIV also enhances the capacity of selected vocational education and training centers to deliver the demand driven skills training and create linkages with industry attachments, internships and mentorships.
PPDP ensures that the target communities attain relevant technical and soft skills, qualification and work experience required to improve their employability.
Nickson Kisotu, Suswa ward MCA the beneficiary of the PPDP project said ForumCIV played an important role to its constituents especially in the establishment of the resource center, job creations, empowering women and adult education amongst the locals.
“Now in Suswa ward, almost everyone knows how to speak and understand Kiswahili among the elderly persons. It’s a great opportunity to our people” he said.
He mentioned that PPDP projects aim at building of resource centers that are equipped with books, computers, and installed with WiFi, thus youths have gotten jobs through such initiatives.
PPDP is the cooperation between public and private sector actors to proactively create business ventures that also improve conditions for the people.
