Gachagua to Raila: You're an ordinary citizen, can't fire your Chief in Bondo
By Peter Ochieng
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has laughed off Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga's threat to institute a process of recalling United States ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman.
Addressing delegates during the devolution conference in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county on Thursday, Odinga took a strong stand against Whitman's comment on the August, 2022 presidential contest.
The ambassador termed the 2022 presidential election as free and fair, in the process inviting Odinga's wrath.
He told her to "shut her mouth."
Gachagua speaking on Friday in Eldoret said the Azimio boss has no power to sack his assistant Chief in Bondo, leave alone instituting a process to recall ambassador Whitman.
He said the ODM party leader is 'just an ordinary citizen' after losing the presidential race to president William Ruto a year ago.
“I want to remind Odinga that William Ruto is the legitimately elected President of Kenya. You are just an ordinary person. You say you’ll fire the American ambassador to Kenya, but you don’t even have the authority to sack your assistant Chief in Bondo,” said Gachagua.
According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Ruto won the race to State House with 7.1 million votes, against Raila's 6.9 million.
The DP said that they will not allow Odinga to sneak into the Ruto led Kenya Kwanza administration, through threats and intimidation.
“I want to guarantee you that we will not give in to your threats or intimidation. We will stay put till the end."
His sentiments came shortly after Ruto defended the US Ambassador against Odinga's attacks.
“The American ambassador said two statements of facts; she said the last election was the freest and the fairest in the history of Kenya, which is a statement of fact, she said Kenya is open for business which is also a statement of fact,” said president Ruto.
He said Raila's statement against the ambassador was reckless.
