Governor reshuffles cabinet, speaks tough over service delivery

By Peter Ochieng

Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka has reshuffled his cabinet with an eye on optimising performance, fostering teamwork and effective service delivery.

When he appeared before the press on Friday, Lusaka appeared tough, away from his usual cheerful demeanour, emphasising on the need for effective service delivery.

The former Senate Speaker announced the appointment of Engineer Agnes Wachiye as the new County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education.

Dr. Monica Fedha is the new CECM for Trade, Benedict Emachar is now the man in charge of the gender docket while Wamamili Wanyonyi is the CECM in charge of public service.

Beatrice Nakhumicha takes over as the Youth and Sports Chief Officer, while Timothy Wanjala assumes the role of Chief Officer for Cooperatives.

The county boss said the changes are rooted in a steadfast commitment to uphold the law and deliver improved services to residents of Bungoma County.

The reshuffle, he said, intended to ensure optimal performance, citing considerations of regional and gender balance as well as individual competencies.

"I need a team that not only understands but also shares my vision, and is willing to go the full hog to realise the same," Lusaka stated.

His previous team, he said, lacked cohesion that hindered progress despite previous efforts to build unity through meetings, workshops and seminars.

“My commitment to seamlessly deliver services to the people of Bungoma remains at the top of my agenda. There is no doubt that progress has been made, but there is potential to do much better,” he said.

"As a government that is almost halfway through its term, we do not have the luxury of time or patience to keep our people waiting for service delivery,” he emphasised.

He highlighted his determination to assemble a team that not only understands but also fully shares in his vision for the county’s development.

Lusaka served as first Bungoma governor from 2013 to 2017, before being reelected in 2022. That means he cannot vie for the seat again in 2027.
