Hospital opens doors to boost health delivery systems through partnerships

Residents of Kimilili Sub County and its environs have a reason to smile after The Aga Khan Health Services opened a medical centre in Kimilili Town of Bungoma County.
The facility, located along Posta Street next to Phim Kindergarten primary school, opened its doors on Saturday May 13, 2023.
Speaking to KNA at Mt Elgon Sub County at the Deputy County Commissioner’s office, Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu marketing officer Maureen Khamala said that the decision was taken on realisation that most of their clients travel all the way to Kisumu and Eldoret in search of medical services.
“Our intention is to bring services closer to the people to reduce costs and traveling long distances,” She noted.
Miss Khamala said that the facility will prioritize improvement of public health systems through partnerships.
She said that the vision of Aga Khan Health services is to create efficient and appropriate health systems that improve the health of individuals and populations in low and middle class.
Miss Khamala said that the facility has set up a branch in Kimilili town with a mission of transforming health care system.
She noted that they will deliver the health services through its own hospital and other health centers.
“Our operations is pivoted on research into the chronic and emerging health issues in low and middle income areas,” Said Miss Khamala.
The marketing officer further said that the Aga Khan Hospital will also train and continue educating nurses, doctors and other health professionals.
She further noted that services currently available include general medication, nursing services, laboratory services, pharmacy, Mother, and Child Health clinic.
Miss Khamala said the facility will be operational Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am to 5pm while on Saturday it will open between 9am to 2pm and close on Sundays and public holidays.
Paul Wasike a resident of Kimilili town has welcomed the opening of the facility in the Sub County stating that it will not only offer medical services for residents but will also be creating employment to the people.
Wasike called upon residents to make good use of the facility and advised those who have been traveling to Eldoret that they can now get the needed medical services nearer.
Miss Khamala called upon residents, civil servants both at the national and county governments to utilise the facility to better their health for themselves and their family.
