Uasin Gishu County Governor Jonathan Chelilim has expressed confidence in the establishment of the County Export Processing Zone as a game changer to the county’s economy.

He affirmed that it would go a long way in opening up the region economically further signifying a huge milestone, especially on matters of investment through the attraction of investors that would result in the improvement of trade and creation of job opportunities for residents.

Speaking during his development tour across the county on Thursday and at the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Cherunya, Langas ward ahead of the official ground breaking ceremony for the construction of warehouses, Governor Chelilim said that his administration is committed to working closely with traders and investors in making sure that the established warehouses are put into serious industrial use.

The Governor called on the youth to ensure they equipped themselves with appropriate technical skills for them to secure employment opportunities as soon as the construction of warehouses takes course.

"This EPZ is going to be a game changer in our county and I'm calling on every resident to grab the available opportunities that come with it," he said.

The Governor further used the opportunity to urge residents to ensure they are well set to welcome the devolution conference slated for August 15-19.

The Export Processing Zone is envisioned to promote export-oriented industries, which will boost the country's export earnings and contribute to the growth of the local economy as well as facilitate export-oriented investment to the East African Community.

The Governor later, together with the county officials, presided over the official opening of Kipkaren Estate market shade and lockups, visited Cemtech, the upcoming cement-making factory in Kamagut ward, Turbo Sub- County to check on its progress and checked on the progress of sub-county offices and Charamei market.

Others present were MCAs Francis Muya (Langas), David Leting(Kipkenyo), Moses Kebenei (Kapseret) County Executives Martha Cheruto (Trade), Eng Joseph Lagat (Roads), Trade Chief Officer Geoffrey Tanui, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KNNCI) Eldoret Chapter Chairperson Willy Kenei, Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Elodret Chapter Chairperson William Ong'are among others.
