Kisumu City, renowned for its commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation has taken another significant step towards combating plastic and electronic waste.

Circularity, a software engineering company based in the lakeside county, has developed an AI-powered e-waste management and collection system aimed at tackling the long-forgotten issue of electronic waste.

The new system, developed in collaboration with leading technology experts, utilizes artificial intelligence to streamline the collection and recycling process of e-waste.

With the integration of AI in Kisumu, the company hopes to not only curb plastic waste, but also address the growing problem of electronic waste, which often ends up in landfills, posing a threat to the environment.

Speaking at the Business Ecosystem Summit in Kisumu County Friday, the company Co-founder Antony Kinyua said the e-waste management and collection system is set to strategically place collection points across Kisumu City.

These collection points serve as convenient drop-off locations for residents and businesses to dispose of their electronic waste responsibly.

Equipped with AI technology, the system can identify and sort different types of electronic waste, ensuring proper recycling and disposal, added Kinyua.

By implementing this innovative solution, the company aims to encourage and sensitize the city to actively participate in e-waste management.

The system provides an efficient and user-friendly approach that includes redeemable points, making it easy for individuals to contribute to a cleaner and greener environment.

Additionally, the AI-powered system will generate valuable data on e-waste patterns and trends. This information will enable city authorities to develop targeted strategies to further reduce electronic waste and strengthen recycling initiatives.

The power of AI in Kisumu will not only address the immediate issue of electronic waste, but also pave the way for long-term sustainability in waste management.

The e-waste management and collection system which has already gained recognition from environmentalists, and technology enthusiasts will add to the city's commitment to not only tackling the common plastic waste materials but also electronic waste.

The adoption of this innovative use of technology in waste management will make Kisumu's dedication to creating a cleaner and healthier environment for its residents.

“The adoption of this invention will demonstrate that through the integration of technology and sustainable practices, we can effectively combat the pressing issue of electronic waste,” Kinyua stated.
