Following the presidential directive to scale up the Inua Jamii cash transfer Program, the registration exercise kicked off in earnest Friday at the Kambiti chief’s camp in Murang’a South sub-county.
The first day of the exercise witnessed long queues of the targeted population and their care givers.
Maragua Sub-county social development officer Ruth Gichuki and the office of the area Member of Parliament Mary Wamaua are overseeing the registration exercise which will run until September 15.
“We are registering all persons aged 70 years and above and are not in any pension scheme (OPTC), people with severe disabilities (PWSD) and also the orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in our society,” observed Gichuki.
“We are committed to ensuring that no vulnerable or qualified case will be left out,” she added.
The beneficiaries and caregivers are supposed to carry their identification cards and any other relevant documents so as to be successfully registered in the program.
Inua Jamii is a government-consolidated cash transfer program that supports the most vulnerable citizens by providing them with a bi-monthly stipend to cushion them from poverty and vulnerabilities with the aim of improving their lives.
Currently, the Inua Jamii program has over 1.7 million beneficiaries.
