Police officers in Muhoroni, Kisumu County have retrieved the body of a man from a deep pit filled with water.
The body of John Omondi Okidi was discovered by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Police Department following a tip-off by members of the public.
Okidi is believed to have been killed by a teacher identified as Barack Odhiambo Obuogo who earlier dismissed accusations against him as rumours.
Muhoroni OCPD, SPC Joshua Nyasimi told KNA Friday evening that the incident was reported at the Chemelil Police post on Thursday, November 23.
Nyasimi stated in a detailed police report that Okidi was killed at Paw Ten'g village, Muhoroni, Kisumu County, and buried in a shallow well in the home of the suspect (Obuogo).
He said police officers first visited Obuogo’s home which is about 9 km from the police station led by the OCPD and DCIO Muhoroni and interrogated him.
The suspect first denied knowledge of the incident terming the allegations against him as malicious rumours.
However, a search was conducted and the officers assisted by members of the public were shocked to find Okidi's body hidden in the pit covered with a heap of green branches.
Nyasimi said his officers skillfully removed the branches and pumped out the water only to find Okidi’s body therein and retrieve it.
He said the body was positively identified by his father, Patrick Odhiambo Okidi as that of his son John Omondi Okidi of Nyang'oma Location.
Obuogo was arrested and is currently helping police officers with the investigation as the main suspect explained the OCPD said.
The body was taken to Othoo Funeral Home as the officers continued to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder.
