Politician cum businessman Jimi Wanjigi has been released on a personal bond.

The Safina Party leader was released on a bond of Sh10 million, a day after being arrested and detained at Kamukunji Police Station.

Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi ordered him to surrender his passport in court, pending the ruling to be delivered on September 12 on when he will take plea.

He was arrested over allegations of illegal firearm possession. The business termed his arrest as illegal, owing to the fact that a prior court order barred the police from arresting him. Wanjigi said through his release, the court upheld the constitution of Kenya.

He is among politicians who have been pushing for President Wiliam Ruto’s ‘removal from office.’ “William Ruto, know today, I am coming for you because I believe Ruto must go,” he said after his release.

Meanwhile, 8 police officers have been interdicted by acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli, in relation to the escape of the prime suspect in the Kware killings, Collins Jumaisi and 12 other inmates of Eritrean descent.

The suspects escaped from Gigiri Police Station, Nairobi on Tuesday morning. Masengeli said Gigiri Sub- County police commander, Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and report officers are among those interdicted. Masengeli, speaking to the press briefing described the incident as “an inside job.”

He said the CCTV footage was being screened to give the investigators more details regarding the incident. The acting police boss expressed his confidence over the re-arrest of the suspects, soon.

Collins Jumaisi made headlines weeks ago, when police paraded him before the media and claimed he had confessed to killing at least 42 women and dumped their bodies in Kware in a period of two years, from 2022 to 2024.

Police stated that he admitted that his first victim was his wife, who he allegedly strangled to death and dismembered before dumping her remains at the dump site.

However, in a quick turnaround, the suspect told the court that police tortured him and forced him to confess to the murders.
