One of Kenya’s leading companies in the production of poultry in East and Central Africa, Kenchic Limited has announced the attainment of the Food Safety System Certification (FSSC 22000) for its state-of-the-art processing plant located in Thika.
The certificate was awarded on Tuesday following a comprehensive and stringent audit of the companies’ processes that evaluated various aspects of its day-to-day operations.
Kenchic Limited Managing Director Jim Tozer said the audit covered a wide range of processes, including the slaughtering of chickens, the processing of raw fresh and frozen poultry products and ready to eat products.
“Our processing structures and production floors were found to be flawless and the audit revealed commendable Good Manufacturing Practices findings,” he said.
“This certification therefore reaffirms our dedication to ensuring that our customers receive the highest quality poultry products. We have been a trailblazer in setting food safety standards since 2011 and this recognition is a testament of our ongoing commitment to uncompromising quality,” Said Tozer.
He further explained that the main objective of the audit was to assess the conformity of Kenchic’s management system and the company’s ability to ensure adherence to statutory, regulatory and contractual requirements, which in turn revealed the effectiveness of Kenchic’s systems in achieving its objectives.
“As a company we have always believed that food safety is not just a responsibility but a commitment to making a positive impact on our customers' lives. By achieving this certification status, we continue to uphold our promise of providing safe, sustainable and environment friendly food production,” he added.
The Food Safety System Certification for food and feed safety/quality management is a food safety scheme that is internationally recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative that is applicable to all organizations in the food chain, regardless of size and complexity.
The scheme sets out requirements to develop, implement and operate a food safety management system and is awarded by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
