Kenya launches skills training program for youth eyeing online offshore jobs
NAIROBI, June 13 (Xinhua)
Kenya on Tuesday launched a five-week skills training program for youth seeking online offshore jobs.
Florence Bore, cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, said the program has attracted more than 2,000 young people with the aim of empowering them with requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will enable them to undertake online work for overseas clients.
"The program will go a long way in improving the employability of individuals, increasing productivity as well as reducing unemployment," Bore said during a virtual press conference in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi.
She observed that over the last decade, the availability of online jobs has grown, and this has created consistent job opportunities for youth joining the labor market.
She called on Kenyan youth to exploit information technology to pursue lucrative economic opportunities that can be accessed through digital platforms.
Geoffrey Kaituko, principal secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, said the training program includes data management, transcription as well as content writing.
Kaituko added that the program shall be delivered using e-learning platforms.
