Kenya Power CEO condemns MP over attack on staff
By Peter Ochieng
Kenya Power Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Joseph Siror is not a happy man.
Siror has condemned Kitui East Member of Parliament (MP) Nimrod Mbai for assaulting Kenya Power staff.
On Tuesday, the legislature was captured on video beating up a Kenya Power staff for reportedly disconnecting an illegal power line at his Kitengela, Kajiado County home.
In a statement, Siror said the incident is the latest to be observed among many attacks, targeting Kenya Power staff while on duty.
"As an entity that prioritizes the welfare of its staff and the public, we condemn this incident and we wish to categorically state that we do not condone any form of violence, at least not on our staff while on official duty," said the CEO.
He said they will not relent in their bid to weed out individuals spearheading illegal, and dangerous power lines.
"Last year, we lost 214 units of transformers valued at an average of Sh800,000 per unit due to overloading from illegal connections and vandalism," he said.
"The Company will intensify network surveillance and continue to work closely with the national government administration officers and other security agencies to stamp out all illegal activities."
Siror requested members of the public to report cases of vandalism, illegal connections, theft of power and any other suspicious activity through number 97771.
One can call or send a text message to that number.
MP Mbai has since been apprehended over the assault incident.
