Kenya set to abolish visa requirement for Comoros citizens

By Peter Ochieng

President William Ruto has made a promise to Comoros citizens.

The Head of State has committed to ensure that Kenya, abolishes visa requirements for Comoros citizens holding valid travel documents to travel into Kenya by the end of 2023.

He gave the pledge while speaking as chief guest during Comoros 48th Independence Day celebrations.

"I give you a commitment that Kenya shall abolish the requirement of visas for all persons holding valid travel documents issued by the Union of the Comoros into Kenya, before the end of 2023," said Ruto.

Similarly, he said there is a consideration to allow students from Comoros to pursue higher education in Kenya.

If the deal goes through, Comoros students studying in Kenya will pay the same amount of fees as locals.

He called for cooperation between the two countries.

"Let us embrace the spirit of solidarity and cooperation, as we work hand in hand to address common challenges, such as climate change, regional security, and economic development."

"This is why I am taking this opportunity to also extend an invitation to the people of the Union of Comoros to join the East African Community so that we can pursue and achieve prosperity together."

It was Ruto's first visit to Comoros since being elected in August, 2023.
