Kiambu to experience a surge in rainfall this week

Kiambu County is set to experience much-anticipated increase in rainfall this coming week as the short rains season begins.

The County Director of Meteorological Services, Magdalene Gateri said that there will be an increase in precipitation, potentially signaling a relief from prolonged dry spell.

"The rains will range from 5 mm to 50 mm with regions of Thika Town, Kabete, Kiambu and Juja having the low ranges from 5 to 20 mm and Gatundu North and South, Githunguri, Limuru and Lari receiving the higher ranges from 20 to 50 mm," she said in a statement 

The CEC of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation John Mwangi Kamau urged farmers, to plant crops such as maize, beans, and vegetables since the additional moisture will revitalise farmlands and help replenish dwindling water sources.

"The heightened rainfall is expected to lead to improved pasture for livestock, benefiting the pastoralist communities in the area," he said.

Kamau said as Kiambu County basks in this positive turn of weather, they are hoping that the trend continues throughout the short rains season, providing much-needed relief from the arid conditions that have persisted in recent times.
