Kisumu's Kadibo elevated to Sub-County status

By Peter Ochieng

Kadibo has officially become the 8th Sub-County in Kisumu County.

Speaking during the inauguration on Friday, Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Ochieng Owili said the elevation which comes after four years will lead to major transformations in the area.

“This elevation is not merely a change in administrative status; but it is a profound transformation that will impact and transform the lives of many,” said Owili.

The inauguration ceremony at Rabuor, was attended by among others, Nyanza Regional Commissioner Madam Flora Mworoa.

Dr. Owili urged the national government to prioritize tarmacking the Rabuor-Chiga-Kibos road, to open up Rabuor to further expansion.

“As the county government, we join the people of Kadibo in celebrating this historic occasion. We hope this new status will bring better services to the residents. Some vital services that could not be offered here can now be availed to the people,” he said.

“There will be no more costly trips to Awasi in Nyando to seek some of the national government services.”

The DG said the Kisumu County administration will now operationalize the Sub-County offices in Kadibo, creating a direct channel of communication and engagement between the government and the community.

“This means your voices will be heard, and your needs will be addressed promptly,” he told residents.

Kadibo was handed Sub-County status by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration in 2021.

Fred Okengo Matiang’i, then Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior through a gazette notice dated 29th October 2021, said new Sub County would have its headquarters in Rabuor.

However, some residents want Nyang’ande to serve as headquarters, arguing that it is more central than Rabuor.

The new administrative unit is expected to fast-track issuance of key government documents such as the national ID, birth and death certificates.

It becomes the 8th Sub-County after Muhoroni, Nyakach, Nyando, Kisumu East, Kisumu Central, Kisumu West and Seme.
