Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu has unveiled six hospital management boards to run and manage the health institutions in the area.
While unveiling the management boards at the Governor’s compound in Nanyuki, Irungu noted that they would provide oversight of the hospitals, promote their development and approve plans and programs for the County Government.
These boards are for NCRH - Nyahururu County Referral Hospital -General, Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital - NTRH - LHS Nanyuki, Rumuruti Sub-county Hospital, Ndindika Sub-County Hospital, Dol Dol Sub county Hospital, and Lamuria Sub-county Hospital.
Each board has nine members, two of whom are county employees, one from the private sector, a representative from a faith-based organization, a differently-abled person, from finance sector, academia, civil society, and healthcare.
Governor Irungu has assured of the governments’ support to ensure that the new members will have a conducive environment to improve healthcare in the county.
“I pledge to protect the boards from political interference and obstruction from the execution and delivery of their critical mandates vested in them by the law,” he said.
Health County Executive Committee Member Albert Taiti has termed the move as timely saying management gaps that have limited tailored policy development for the institutions will be addressed by the boards.
“For the past one year we have not had boards in hospitals which has been a little bit difficult to know what is actually happening in the facilities, it can only get better for all these health facilities,” CECM Wagura Taiti said.
Board members will be on a three-year contract.
They are mandated to effectively transform services in Rumuruti Sub County Hospital, Ndindika Sub-county Hospital, Kimanju Sub-county Hospital, Doldol Sub-county Hospital, Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital, and Nyahururu County Referral Hospital.
“Their diverse skills, knowledge, and experience will ensure well-rounded decision-making for the betterment of our hospitals and healthcare services,” the health executive observed.
“I pledge to protect the boards from political interference and obstruction from the execution and delivery of their critical mandates vested in them by the law,” Irungu said.
