Masalani residents receive relief food

The Government has distributed 1100 bags of rice to families affected by drought in Ijara Sub-County in Garissa.
Chairing a Relief Distribution Committee in his Masalani Office, Acting Ijara Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Mr Dubat Mohamed, said that the food will be distributed to the 87 identified centres, with each centres receiving 12 bags of rice, since the available ratio was not enough to be dispatched to all the centres in the Sub-county.
“We have received 1,100 bags of rice, which we distributed to 87 centres within Masalani location and it’s environ bearing in mind there are rural- urban migration to major markets,” DCC said.
Those who benefited from the relief ratio includes Alfaruq Orphanage Centre 15 bags, 15 bags to Masalani Referral Hospital, 25 Kenya Police Reservists, 15 bags to peace Committee 8 bags to SUPKEM and 6 bags to CIPU.
Mr Mohamed commended other players in humanitarian exercise including Non-governmental organizations such as Save the Children through Cash Transfer, UNWFP, Mercy Corps and Kenya Red Cross Society among others.
He called on Relief Committees, Chiefs and their Assistants, to make sure the famine relief food reaches its destination and beneficiaries so as to mitigate against peoples suffering and save lives.
The DCC warned that any person or group of people found involved in selling or diverting famine relief food will be dealt with accordingly.
