'Mathee wa Ngara' denied bail, Teresia Wanjiru set free

Nancy Kigunzu alias Mathee wa Ngara suffered a major blow on Thursday, after the court ruled against her application for bail.
The businesswoman who was arrested a week ago within the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) is in police custody for alleged drug trafficking.
Njeri Thuku, the magistrate, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) courts ruled that granting her bail would be against the best interest of justice.
She said Mathee wa Ngara is a flight risk due to her alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
On Monday, she collapsed during the hearing of her bail application. She, through her lawyers led by Danstan Omari, informed the court that her medical condition needs constant review and medication.
Nancy, alongside the third accused Eugine Jumbo, who was also denied bail, will remain in police custody until the case is heard and determined.
On the other hand, her co-accused, Teresia Wanjiru was granted Sh50,000 cash bail on Thursday.
Wanjiru will however be required to provide contact information of two people, one of whom is a blood relative, and to appear before the JKIA law courts within seven days to file a social report.
She was the first to be arrested, before police pounced on the ‘real Mathee wa Ngara.’
Last week, Teresia Wanjiru through her advocate Brian Khisa said she was contemplating taking legal action against the government, in the event the court rules that she has no case to answer in the drug trafficking allegations.
Khisa said his client has undergone tough times including getting sick while in police custody.
Wanjiru was in custody at the JKIA police station, while Nancy was being held at the Muthaiga police station.
Police are going on with investigations, to determine the main suspect between the two.
