Nakuru Deputy Governor David Kones has flagged off a consignment medicine and non-pharmaceuticals worth Sh49 million to over 200 health facilities across the county.
Kones said the consignment is composed of various types of drugs worth Sh27 million and non-pharmaceuticals amounting to Sh22 million, adding they are meant for Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 low-volume hospitals.
The Deputy Governor said the release of medicine was a significant step by the Governor Susan Kihika led County towards delivering quality healthcare services to the people.
He added they will continue to do everything possible to end the shortage of drugs and other medical essentials in all public health facilities.
Since the beginning of the year, there has been an outcry over shortage of drugs in the health facilities across the country with county governments blaming KEMSA for delayed supply of medicine.
However, the KEMSA Board claimed the delays were occasioned by financial challenges, supply chain crisis, procurement, and warehouse hitches.
The deputy governor was accompanied by the County Secretary. Dr. Samuel Mwaura, the County Executive for Health, Jacqueline Osoro and Chief Officer for Medical Services Dr. John Murima among other county health managers.
