Messi reveals next club after leaving PSG

Argentina football legend Lionel Andres Messi has made a decision on his future, days after leaving French side PSG.

The 35-year-old World Cup winner is set to join Inter Miami in the United States of America (USA).

The team takes part in the Major League Soccer (MSL).

"I've taken the decision that I am going to Miami. I have decided to leave Europe," Messi said, as quoted by newspapers Diario Sport and Mundo Deportivo.

He said he would have remained in Europe had it been possible to rejoin former club Barcelona.

"It's true that I had offers from another European team but I didn't even think about it because in Europe, my idea was only to go to Barcelona. After winning the World Cup and not being able to go to Barca, it's time to go to MLS to live football in a different way and enjoy my day to day life more," added Messi.

The 7-time Ballon D'or winner joined PSG in 2021 after Barcelona lacked funds to renew his contract. He left after 21 years.

With Messi in the team, Paris St-Germain won 2 Ligue 1 titles, but went out in the Champions League last 16.

He scored 32 goals in 75 games for the club. He ended this season with 16 goals and 16 assists in Ligue 1.

Messi said he was in close communication with Barcelona coach, Xavi over his possible return but nothing materialised.

"We were very excited, because when something came out we would discuss if he really wanted me to come back, if it was good for the team and for him, and we kept in communication."

There was talk of Messi leaving PSG for the Saudi Arabia league.

He said if it was because of money, he would have taken the Saudi route.
