Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Migori Chapter has urged the business community in Migori to join the body so as to benefit from its network.

The call came during the election of Migori officials who will run the organisation’s activities for the next three years at Maranatha Church Assemblies in Migori town, where Mr Paul Orimbo was elected as the new chair.

KNCCI is a non-profit organisation that advocates for the interests of the business community in Kenya.

The organisation represents the private sector and aims to promote economic growth by creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

The KNCCI has over 20,000 members across the country, and it is the largest business association in Kenya.

Speaking after his election, Mr Orimbo said that he intends to bring changes to the body to increase its popularity in the county and attract more members from the current 73 registered members.

He emphasised the role of the chamber in promoting business and economic growth in the county.

"My priority as the new chair of the Migori Chapter is to increase the membership of the chamber and make it more visible in the county.

We want to create awareness about the services that the chamber provides and encourage more businesses to join. By working together, we can promote business and economic growth in Migori," said Mr Orimbo

He outlined his plans to work closely with the county government and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in Migori.

He noted that the chamber would advocate for policies that support entrepreneurship and work to attract investment to the county.

"We want to work closely with the county government of Migori and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in Migori’, he said.

This includes advocating for policies that support entrepreneurship and attract investment to the county. We believe that by working together, we can promote economic growth and create jobs for the people of Migori," he added.

Speaking during the same function, the Nyanza Regional Director of the KNCCI, Peter Ouma, emphasised the importance of the chamber to traders.

He highlighted the role of the organisation in providing business support services and promoting entrepreneurship in the county.

Mr Ouma encouraged the business community in Migori to join the chamber so as to benefit from its network.

"The KNCCI provides a platform for businesses to connect, share ideas, and access market information. We also provide business support services, such as training and mentorship, to help businesses grow and succeed.

By joining the chamber, businesses can benefit from our network and access opportunities that they may not have been able to access on their own," said Mr Ouma.

Mr Ouma spoke about the role of the KNCCI in promoting entrepreneurship in the county, noting that the body works closely with the government and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment for businesses to prosper.

This includes advocating for policies that support entrepreneurship and providing business development services to startups and small businesses.

"KNCCI is committed to promoting entrepreneurship in Migori and Kenya as a whole. We believe that entrepreneurship is the key to creating jobs, reducing poverty, and promoting economic growth. By supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses, we can create a vibrant and dynamic economy that benefits everyone," said Mr Ouma.

Migori County is better placed to conduct both local and international trade owing to its border with Tanzania.

As a strategy for boosting the revenue for growth, the regional director encouraged the leaders to make the town the fastest-growing town in Nyanza.

“Migori is strategically placed as it borders two biggest countries in East Africa, Kenya and Tanzania. This, therefore, should be exploited by the leaders to the advantage of members,” he said.

Paul Kariuki from Independent Election Board (IEB) while overseeing the election of the new officials, encouraged the new office bearers to enforce strategies that will increase the membership.

Kariuki tasked the leaders with advocacy roles as well as developing favourable policies for the members, engaging team players to promote favourable environments.

He criticised the hostile environment which he attributed to the low membership, especially in Migori County.

“It is, therefore, your duty as the new leaders to ensure that you engage all team players as well as set a favourable environment for the growth of chamber membership in this county,” said Kariuki.
