Migori elders and clergy have condemned the political violence that was witnessed during Raila Odinga's visit to Migori.

Speaking during a peace conference that brought together Migori elders and clergy in one of the County Halls in Migori town, the elders asked the County youth to always maintain peace and practice political tolerance.

Suba Council of Elders Mr. Japheth Riogi condemned the violence that occurred in Maranatha-Suna West Constituency where a former MP was attacked by youths. Former Suna West MP Joseph Ndiege's vehicles had their windows smashed as youth attacked him and his supporters during the Raila visit.

Riogi reminded the residents of Migori that campaigns were over and it was time to work with the government to promote peace, development, and inclusivity. “Migori County is cosmopolitan and it is my duty to unite and lead my County men and women as an appointed elder of Migori,” said Riogi.

He was saddened that Migori had become a battlefield every time there was a political gathering within the county.

Riogi called upon the Migori youths to maintain peace and refrain from political violence organised by politicians that aim to use them to achieve their political agenda.

He also encouraged Migori residents to have faith and confidence in the current government and put their differences aside in order to provide a conducive environment for meaningful development.

A Cleric from Migori John Adau, said that elections were over and there was no need for political violence in the County. He said that any elected leader engineering chaos and using the youths to propagate their agenda should be condemned in the strongest terms possible.

The clergy asked the elected leaders to instill good leadership among youths to model them for future leadership. He, however, encouraged the Migori leaders to work with the government of the day for the economic good of their electorate and the development of the County.
