Ministry of health issues Updates on Mpox outbreak in the country

The Ministry of Health has adressed the Mpox situation in the country following a reported outbreak on Wednesday this week.

The Ministry reports that no new case has been recorded while efforts to track physic contacts and trace home, family and hospital where the infected person visited, are still underway.

According the the Ministry, the Infected person, a long distance track driver, is now back in the country under medical containment measures.

The Ministry has also made cross-border communication with health authorities of the countries where the infected person travelled through to trace possible physical contacts.

A rapid-response team has also been deployed across infected countries to conduct detailed investigations.

Furthermore, a public health emergency operation has been launched across the country with operation centres set up to monitor the Mpox situation.

The Ministry is also monitoring the regional evolution of outbreak across neighboring countries to assess the possible risk transmission across the region and possible containment measures of the virus.

Meanwhile, all counties have been directed to conduct public sensitization to educate the public on preventive measures including regular hand washing with soap, water or hand sanitizer and avoiding contact with suspected cases.

The Ministry has also issued emergency Hotline numbers ( 0729471414/719)to immediately report on suspected cases while efforts to coordinate with other relevant stakeholders have also been put in place to lay out effective interventions and response to the outbreak.

The confirmed case was travelling from Kampala to Rwanda where he went through Mombasa and Taita Taveta in Kenya and later through Tanzania.
