MP Kaluma links Uhuru to success of Africa Climate Summit
By Peter Ochieng
Curtains of the inaugural Africa Climate Summit (ACS) came down at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi on Wednesday, with president William Ruto receiving plaudits for top notch planning and execution.
Political analysts Mutahi Ngunyi and Herman Manyora are among those who commended the Head of State for a summit well organized.
“One year after Ruto took over, Kenya is regaining its Libido Dominandi (the urge to dominate). And #ACS23 is testament to this. You cannot argue with the smooth execution of this meeting. Even Babaman (Raila Odinga) could not resist attending. I liked his cheeky entrance. Only baba can do this,” Ngunyi posted on X.
“Three days of talking summarised in only 3 minutes. Statistics, imagery, conviction and satire. Plus, a subtle attack on the colonizers. Dear Ruto: Good job,” he added. Manyora was not left behind.
"Congratulations, Your Excellency President @WilliamsRuto for successfully hosting the Africa Climate Summit.”
However, Homabay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Opondo Kaluma commenting on the success of ACS23 said retired president Uhuru Kenyatta should receive all the praises.
Kaluma said the summit turned out successful because of the roads built during Kenyatta’s time in office.
He served as Kenya’s fourth president, from 2013 to 2022.
One of the key roads during his time in office is the Nairobi Expressway.
"Imagine this Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi without the roads President Uhuru Kenyatta built! Uhuru is the greatest President Kenya has ever had! Kibaki only takes credit on roads Baba Raila Odinga built," said the vocal legislature.
ACS23 was attended by over 10 Heads of State and Government, who at the end of the three-day event adopted a Nairobi Declaration calling for decarbonization and a just multilateral finance architecture as the world races against time to combat climate change.
“We call for concrete action on the proposals to reform the multilateral financial system currently under discussion specifically to (a) build resilience to climate shocks, including better deployment of the SDR liquidity mechanism and disaster suspension clauses,” reads the declaration in part.
African leaders urged the international community to accelerate efforts geared towards reducing carbon emissions.
