The Ballon d'Or nominees list has been released with both Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo missing out.
It is the first time since 2003 that neither Messi, 37, and Ronaldo, 39, have made the nominations.
Messi who won the precious award, has won the prestigious award a record 8 times while Ronaldo has won it on five occasions.
Manchester city's Rodi and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jnr are considered as top favorites for the award while former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has been nominated despite hanging up his boots.

Nominees for the Ballon d'Or Feminin were revealed on the same live stream. Barcelona and Spain sensation Anita Bonmati scooped the prize last time around, and she leads the list of candidates again.

Kylian Mbappé was the first recipient of this award in 2018, followed by Matthijs de Ligt (2019), Pedri (2021), Gavi (2022), and Bellingham (2023).
Lamine Yamal is the leading contender, having already achieved significant success with Spain at the Euro and leading Barcelona, who started the current season with a perfect record at just 17 years old.
Arda Güler, with less prominence at Real Madrid, is also a strong candidate for the award. His undeniable quality impressed the world during the latter part of last season and the Euro with Turkey.
2024 Yacine trophy nominees
Only one goalkeeper has ever won the Ballon d'Or: Lev Yashin, in 1963. So, in a bid to ensure more shot-stoppers were recognised at their annual ceremonies in Paris, France Football introduced the Yashin Trophy in 2019 to recognise the best goalkeeper from the previous season.
Voted for by past Ballon d'Or winners, previous recipients of the award include Alisson Becker, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Thibaut Courtois and Emiliano Martinez, and it is sure to be hotly-contested again in 2024.

Best coaches 2024
France Football announced the nominees for the newly introduced Ballon d'Or Coach of the Year awards, marking a new era for the award gala.
The coach's award includes recognition for both men's and women's coaches. It's a new prize that will be a part of the expanded Ballon d'Or event, co-organized by UEFA and Groupe Amaury, the owner of France Football.
"Together, UEFA and Groupe Amaury aim to enhance the stature and global reach of the awards while fostering a sense of unity and collaboration within the football community," a UEFA statement read last winter.
The awards will maintain their "unchanged and independent" voting system, with UEFA contributing its expertise and managing global commercial rights.

The 2024 Ballon d'Or gala is due to be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France.
The ceremony is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. local time (2 p.m. ET).
