School heads and principals in Murang’a County have been cautioned to keep off from national examination centres.

Murang’a County Director of Education Ms. Anne Kiilu said the school heads and principals were not supposed to be at the centres during administration of exams which kicked off Monday morning.

Kiili noted the presence of the school heads and principals at the centres may compromise credibility of the examinations hence it was better for those not required at the examinations centres to keep off.

“There are required personnel at examination centres. Those not authorized, they should keep off as we strive to deliver credible results. Murang’a for more than four years has not reported any case of exam irregularity and we want this year, all the students to get their results,” highlighted the director.

She added “the candidates have been well prepared for the examinations so it's my appeal for principals and parents not to interfere in any way with the administration of the exams that may lead to cancellation of results.”

Kiilu spoke when she, together with other county officers, led an exercise of distribution of KCPE examination papers from a container at Kenol.

She said there were nine containers in the county and they were working to ensuring that the papers are distributed from the containers at the right time.

Kiilu also said this being the last KCPE examination to be administered in the country, parents should support and encourage their children to perform better.

In Murang’a, 27,214 candidates are sitting for this year’s KCPE exams and another 24, 383 are sitting for grade six KPSEA.

At the same time, Murang’a County Commissioner Patrick Mukuria has noted that they have deployed enough security personnel to man the examination centres.

“I confirm in Murang’a all measures are taken care of to ensure the administration of national exams goes on without hurdles. Every centre is allocated police officers to ensure maximum security as candidates sit for their examinations,” said Mukuria.

He further said they have mobilized vehicles to transport examination papers to all centres at the right time.

“We have mobilized the needed resources to ensure examination papers reach the centres at the right time. Some centres are in interior places but we have vehicles that can manage access to the areas,” he further said.

On his part, the County Police Commander David Mathiu warned members of the public from accessing examination centres without any authority.

“Those who may think of interfering with the exams, let them be warned. Police officers are determined to ensure there is security and no one accesses the centres illegally,” he noted.
