The residents of Kisumu West have decried the deplorable state of a crucial bridge whose deplorable state and continues to endanger their lives. The residents of Ruta and Tieng’re village wailed over the deplorable state of the bridge which they say is the main connection between the two wards of South West and Central Kisumu wards.
This bridge has caused many accidents and maimed many of the local residents including women and children crossing over to school and its our humble plea to our goveronor Prof Anyan’g Nyo’go and senator Tom Ojienda to come to our rescue and work on the bridge, appealed William Oko’go Aluoch, a resident”
The chairman of Rota primary school Charles Otieno claimed that the French government had donated funds to help build the local school and also for constructing the bridge but since the governor paid the bridge a courtesy call in 2018 and pledged an additional 14M for the project nothing has happened on the bridge now running two years.
“My name is Nashon Omulo and am a resident of central ward and its only a few days ago when this bridge swept off and claimed the lives of two school children whose body have not been found to date hence the big question we pose to our leaders is that till when will endure the as the bridge wreak havoc and kill our people” lamente da resident.
Another resident Linet Adhiambo and we vehemently protest over the condition of this bridge which has seen many residents suffer broken limbs with over six women now bed ridden due to this and it also recently swept off a school going child who is still missing to date hence our plea is that till when will we suffer like this?
The residents further lamented that the bridge has been in that deplorable state since 25015 yet the leaders have made no efforts at constructing it with over three contractors assigned to work on it running away from the killer bridge.
The chairman of the local bod boda group Michael Ochieng’ noted that he is the one who has been mobilizing the local bod boda groups to work on the bridge but the local leadership have been missing in the seen.
Another resident Benard Aluodo decried the many years the bridge has been neglected with contractors coming to the scene and then just disappearing now calling on governoer Nyon’go to come to their aid.
“We are pleading with senator Ojienda to talk with the national government to come to our rescue and work on the Ruta bridge including our MCA’s led by Zack Okoyo and Jeniffer to engage with the governor and ensure speedy works commence on the bridge” decried Aluodo
