Rongo University student arrested for allegedly killing colleague

A Rongo University student has been arrested by police in the area, for allegedly killing his colleague.

Confrontation ensued between the suspect by name Titus Limangura, and Abel Chumba on Thursday, before Limangura reportedly stabbed his fellow third year student.

Chumba was rushed to a nearby clinic, before being taken to Tabaka Mission Hospital, in Kisii where he died while undergoing treatment.

The National Police Service (NPS) shared the information on death and arrest, on Friday morning.

"Police in Rongo arrested a suspect, one Titus Limangura in connection with the murder of Abel Chumba, his fellow male third year student at Rongo University. Preliminary investigations suggest that the student succumbed to his injuries at Tabaka Mission Hospital after he was stabbed in the stomach by the suspect on 02/11/2023," NPS said in a statement.

The altercation between the suspect and the victim is believed to have been caused by a dispute over the payment of their bill at a local club, they had earlier visited.

Chumba's death is reported a week after a 23-year-old student at the University of Eldoret in Uasin Gishu county was killed in a fight with an unknown assailant at the institution.

According to a police report, Chris Nyaribo succumbed to injuries he sustained following the fight on October 26, 2023.

Nyaribo died while being treated at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

The assailant is believed to be a fellow student, whom they had differed over a female student.

Nyaribo was in the company of the said female student at the time of the incident.
