Pupils of Dadira Primary school in Butula Sub County have been forced to end classes after heavy wind blew off roof tops of their classrooms on Monday evening.

Speaking to the press at the school compound on Tuesday, the head teacher Mr. Augustine Okello said the decision was reached after consultation with the Sub County Education leadership.

"We have talked to the Sub County director and decided that now that the learners have no shelter, we can close any time from now,” he said.

Okello stated that he received information that four classrooms had their roofs blown off by heavy winds at around 7.00 pm last evening.

“The facilities that were affected include class eight ,head teacher’s office , staff room, grade one and grade two classrooms ,’ he said, adding that six toilets were also affected.

He appealed to well-wishers to support the school especially now that standard eight and grade six candidates are expected to begin their national examinations at the end of this month.

‘We thank God because there were no casualties since the pupils were not in school,’ he said.

The head teacher thanked the area MP Joseph Oyula for the quick response adding that he had already sent a team to assess the situation.

A number of text books and school files were rained on and the extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained.
