Six people die during wedding dance in Kiambu

A village in Ruiru, Kiambu county is in mourning.

At least six people who took to song and dance ahead of attending a wedding in Kihunguro area, Ruiru sub-county died after a septic tank they were dancing on caved-in.

According to police in Kiambu, a group of people had made a stopover at a friend's house on Saturday morning, when at least 10 of them drowned after the tank collapsed.

Police say the ceptic tank collapsed due to the weight of the people on it.

Kiambu governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi confirmed the sad incident.

“An underground tank has caved in at Kihunguro near the Administration Police Post in Ruiru Sub-County. Friends and family were celebrating a wedding when the tank caved-in," said the county chief.

“Several of them have been rescued through the effort of the County Government of Kiambu fire brigade and community members. The rescue mission is continuing. We feel sorry for the families who were impacted and wish a quick recovery to the victims."
