A suspected drug peddler was last night arrested in possession of bhang worth Sh126,000 in the outskirts of Lodwar town.
Turkana central sub county police commander Lemmy Njeru said the suspect identified as John Emuria alias Browny aged 37 years was found in possession of about 4600grams of cannabis sativa (bhang).
"Officers were also able to recover Sh106, 995 in cash money of different denominations suspected to be proceeds of the same drug trafficking business," said Njeru.
The suspect was nabbed during a police patrol within Lodwar Township, Nakwamekwi Sub-location when they raided the home of the alleged notorious bhang peddler and managed to arrest him.
Njeru said that the exhibit was kept in safe custody and the suspect will be arraigned in court soon to face charges.
The sub county police boss said the crackdown to get rid of illicit brews and narcotic drugs will continue. The crackdown comes at a time when the national government has declared a war on illicit brews and narcotic drugs that have threatened to ruin lives of many youths.
Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kindiki Kithure are leading this war. Last week Lodwar residents vowed to support the security officers in this fight.
