United Democratic Alliance members in the Ugunja constituency have this morning abandoned the party for its main political rival, the Orange Democratic Movement.

Speaking at the ODM party offices in Ugunja town, the defectors, led by the chairman of the Ugunja boda boda riders, Maurice Amenya and Julius Onyango said they were forced to leave the ruling party because of unfulfilled promises.

They said that they were tired of persistent promises by the top party officials who, they said, have been talking of funds being set aside for projects that have never seen the light of the day.

Members, Mildred Adhiambo Anditi and Horace Oduor said the locals had not seen fruits of UDA party in the area.

Welcoming the defectors, ODM Ugunja officials led by Sylvester Owino said that ODM, under the leadership of former prime minister, Raila Odinga was still the party of choice both in Nyanza and countrywide.

Owino downplayed reports by local UDA officials that their outfit was making inroads in Nyanza.
