The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has given a notice of temporary close of some roads in the Capital, Nairobi on Sunday.

The roads, which include Uhuru Highway and Parliament Road will be closed for 8 hours, from 6am to 2am on Sunday to pave way for Grand Nairobi Bike Race.

“Please note that sections of Uhuru Highway, Parliament Road and Aerodrome Road will be closed on Sunday, 26th November 2023 as from 6AM till 2PM. This is due to the Grand Nairobi Bike Race schedule to take place at KICC, Nairobi,” KURA said in a statement.

“We urge motorists to use alternative routes as guided by traffic marshals present during the event.”

Meanwhile, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has notified motorists traveling along the Madogo Junction - Cheredende - Bura - Hola - Malindi Road, of a road closure at Dukanotu area, due to floods caused by the ongoing heavy rains across the country.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority notifies motorists traveling along the Madogo Junction - Cheredende - Bura - Hola - Malindi Road, of a road closure at Dukanotu area. The closed section is 42kms from Madogo Junction and six (6kms) from Cheredende Town,” KeNHA said in a statement on Thursday.

KeNHa said the road section has been washed away following the ongoing heavy rainfall that led to flooding in the area.

“Motorists are advised to exercise caution and avoid traveling at night, do not drive on off-road pathways, and desist from crossing moving sheet water. KeNHA team is actively on site working to ensure restoration of traffic flow and safety of all motorists.”

“Further updates will be provided in due course,” added the Authority.

Over 70 people have since died as a result of floods across the country, with hundreds of families left homeless after their homes were swept away.

At least 19 of the country’s 47 counties have been affected by flooding which began in late October, 2023.

The worst affected areas are in the north of the country, in particular Samburu, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit and Mandera counties.
