Upgrade Jaramogi Odinga Hospital to level six, pleads stakeholders

Health experts in Kisumu County want the government to upgrade the Jaramogi Odinga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital to a level six facility and to be adopted by the national government in a move meant to enable the county government to channel more attention and resources to the sub county health facilities.

Led by Vincent Jagongo, who is the chairman of Kisumu health committee, the experts noted that the move will help deal with some of the pitfalls within the health sector such as delays in remittance of health facilities management funds and delays in delivery of critical medical supplies among others.

The experts noted that the move will help spruce up health care services delivery to the locals across the subcounties and ensure locals benefit from quality health care services delivery.

“Before we used to get grants from the national government coming to JOOTRH and I can remember we used to get about shs. 260 million every financial year which used to adequately support healthcare management at JOOTRH and that was two years ago. We nolonger receive money as a grant for the level five hospitals that has put the burden on the counties to ensure that they pay for medicine, healthcare workers, and they also do all the management with the money that could be used to support other smaller facilities which is the challenge we presently face,” noted Jagongo.
