Nandi senator Samson Cherargei has urged governors to be accountable and prudently utilise resources allocated to their counties.

Mr Cherargei stated that governors should not be making noise about the allocation of funds to the counties purposely to loot.

Speaking at Kamobo mosque in Kapsabet town during the celebration of Idd- uI-Fitr, Cherargei said the senate has passed an additional Sh 15 billion more to counties to enable them run effectively and deliver.

We have increased resources to counties from the previous Ksh 370 billion to Ksh 385 billion. As much as we push for more resources, governors must be accountable. We want to see development projects, bursaries to our students, drugs in hospitals, better roads and equity in employment,” he said

He said senators always fight for funds for their counties only for governors to complain when asked to be accountable.

The senator who distributed food stuffs to vulnerable families during the celebrations said it’s only through accountability that the Country can achieve development.

I hope that the money will be spent properly to provide services to the people. We want citizens to enjoy the fruits of devolution,” he said

For the fourth consecutive month since December, counties have not received a penny from the National Treasury. This has affected crucial activities barely two months to the end of the fiscal year.

Muslims present appealed to the Chief Justice Martha Koome to establish a Kadhis Court in the county to hear and determine issues that touch on their faith.

Led by Kasim Mohamed, they said despite the region having more than 30 mosque, they have no Kadhis Court thus being forced to travel all the way to either Eldoret or Kisumu saying its time consuming and very expensive

We want a Kadhis Court in Nandi so that it can be able to settle marital affairs, inheritance issues, family and succession and things associated with Muslim community,” he said

The senator promised to follow up the matter with the national government to ensure Muslim community gets what they want because they are taxpayers.
