37-Year-Old man hacks his father to death over Inua Jamii Money

A somber mood engulfed Kelengei area, in Bomet County after a 37-year-old man hacked his elderly father to death demanding part of the money he had received under the Inua Jamii cash transfer program.
Leonard Kipngetich reportedly picked a quarrel with his father, Joseph Arap Oricho, 74, before locking him inside his house and butchering him using a sharp panga.
According to police, the helpless Oricho bled to death after deep cuts were inflicted on his neck, head, and legs.
Makimeny location senior assistant chief Paul Bett and neighbors rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect.
Bet regretted that the deceased had cried for help as he pleaded with his ruthless son to spare his life. “Neighbours say the old man squealed for help and even pleaded with the suspect to spare his life but he went ahead to kill him,” explained Bett adding the suspect's clothes and gumboots had blood stains.
Chepalungu Sub-county police commander Phanton Analo confirmed the incident, saying the suspect was currently being held at Bomet police station waiting to be prosecuted.
The deceased’s body has since been moved to Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary.
