673 ECDE Centres receive learning materials

The Uasin Gishu County Government Department of Education has distributed teaching and learning materials for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners worth Sh22 million to 673 learning centers.
Uasin Gishu County Governor, Jonathan Bii Chelilim speaking during the flagging off at the Teachers Advisory Centre in Eldoret town, noted that education starts as a guiding light for our young generation illuminating the path to a brighter tomorrow.
“As the county government it is our solemn duty to do everything within our power to enhance the quality of our pupil’s education, aligning it with the contemporary means and Competency Based Curriculum (CBC),” said Bii.
“One year ago, upon assuming office, my first duty was to approve the placement of 1,274 ECDE teachers on permanent and pensionable terms,” he noted.
He further noted that the recent introduction of school milk programs in all public ECDEs has witnessed a significant enrolment from 32,697 pupils in the month of May 2023 to the current 36,121 in September 2023.
“This program distributed the milk twice a week and has continued to bear fruits by improving nutrition, retention, and enrolment of our pupils in the county,” said Bii.
“As a county, our exclusive mandate lies in the ECDE education and vocational institutions,” he said, adding that substantial funds have been allocated towards enhancing infrastructural development through the construction of additional classrooms and other amenities and fostering an environment conducive to quality learning.
“I encourage the young generation to take pride in reading, let us continue to enlighten ourselves and remain competitive in this ever-evolving world,” he noted.
The Education County Executive Committee Member (CECM), Janeth Kosgei noted that this teaching and learning resource is key to teaching as it will improve the curiosity of learners, help build competency and empower the teachers while teaching.
“We are strong in education as a county and going forward, we are building the leaders of tomorrow by nurturing their problem-solving skills and collaboration through these teaching materials,” said Kosgei.
Teachers Service Commission (TSC), County Deputy Director, Martha Mbugua further said that when a teacher is confident education becomes smooth and that the supplied resources will for a strong foundation for the new CBC curriculum.
