A Herder in court for Rape

A herder has been arraigned in a Loitoktok court charged with rape.

Loshipa Papaiyo who appeared before Principal Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku is alleged to have committed the offence on April 20, 2023, at Inchakita area in Loitoktok Sub County while herding his cattle.

The woman had told the court that on the material day, she had gone to fetch firewood within a nearby forest when the suspected raped her.

While she was fetching firewood the accused who was grazing his cows in the forest pounced on her and grabbed her neck while threatening to kill her if she screamed.

Amidst her screams the accused raped the woman before a boda boda rider responded to her distress, and when the herder saw the rider, he ran away.

The boda boda rider called for help and a search for the accused commenced.

The accused was arrested within the forest and escorted to Mbirikani police station where he was charged with the offence.

The matter was adjourned for further hearing on June 26, 2023.
