Adani Group makes major announcement

The Adani Group intends to carry out major expansion at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
President William Ruto announced on his verified X account that the airport capacity and economic growth in the region would be transformed.
The expansion project will entail the construction of a new terminal that can support 23 million passengers and refurbishing the current terminal to support an additional 8 million passengers.
This will increase JKIA's passenger capacity to a remarkable 31 million from its current level.
This upgrade will enhance the travel experience through the development of facilities, ensuring less congestion, while attracting more airlines and travellers to Kenya.
President Ruto added in his post that the development is important, and it will go a long way in advancing the airport infrastructure in Kenya to meet the rapidly growing demand for air travel both in the domestic and regional markets.
"This project aligns with our goal to transform our airports into world-class facilities that would meet the increasing number of travellers and position Kenya a hub for international travel," Ruto wrote.
The involvement of the Adani Group, one of the world's leading conglomerates into infrastructure, energy, and logistics, underlines global interest in Kenya's potential as a critical aviation hub.
The project is expected to increase JKIA's passenger-handling capacity and trigger more job opportunities, higher tourism, and the growth of related industries.
"This investment by the Adani Group highlights their commitment to improving aviation infrastructure and contributing to economic growth in Kenya and the wider East Africa region," Ruto added.
The President assured those present that the expansion would cut travelling time and delays, improve customer experience, and eventually make JKIA a destination of choice for international carriers.
JKIA's expansion is one of the broader infrastructural development initiatives aimed at propelling Kenya's economic transformation and solidifying the country's position as the gateway to the African continent.
