Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has blamed President William Ruto for a recent protocol hitch that saw him fail to attend a function where he was expected to be the chief guest.

The reason, according to him, is miscommunication over his absence.

In an interview with TV47, the Governor pointed an accusing finger at the last-minute changes in the President's schedule for the confusion.

"Let me tell you, President Ruto is the cause for that empty seat," lamented Governor Kahiga.

He said he was briefed the previous night by the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to the effect that he and the President would first pay a visit to Kirinyaga before going to Nyeri, Kahiga prepared for the occasion.

That turned out otherwise, the Governor explained. Other than going to Kirinyaga as earlier planned, in the morning that day President Ruto attended a church service in Outering, Nairobi.

This change of events came as a shock to Gachagua and other leaders waiting in Kirinyaga.

"Gachagua had gone to Kirinyaga, waiting for the President, and he was there waiting for the President," Kahiga explained.

He said he was left in the dark on the change in the schedule that brought confusion and consequently led to his missing seat at the meeting in question.

However, Governor Kahiga has not focused on any possible consequence of the incident in his statement, but instead focused on the statement of facts over what transpired regarding the schedules' confusion.

On the contrary, Governor Kahiga commented on issues facing devolution in Kenya.

He credited the introduction of devolution to former president Uhuru Kenyatta while at the same time reproaching the current regime.

"Uhuru Kenyatta was implementing devolution. You can give him credit for what he did. Now I would have expected the Ruto administration would ride on the gains and move on, unfortunately, I do not think that is what is happening today." Kahiga said.
