Nakuru County Department of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance has delivered aid to two families in Waseges ward who suffered devastating losses due to an inferno in their homes.
Led by the Director for Disaster Management, John Muchai the team swiftly responded to the urgent needs of the affected families by providing an assortment of essential items including food, mattresses, and blankets to help them rebuild their lives.
Waseges ward MCA Hon. Elijah Murage commended Governor Susan Kihika's Administration for the prompt response to those in need, as well as the ongoing support for major projects in the area, these include the recent drilling of three boreholes in Kiriko, Ndatho, and Suswa. As well as the construction of a market shade in Mumui.
This was echoed by the local community, represented by Elizabeth Njoki, who said the prompt responses to their immediate needs, especially water have made the women appreciate, more than ever, the changing effects of the devolved governments, which was implemented through the 2010 constitution.
Njoki said in the past many women, dismissed public participation as a waste of time, fearing that their suggestions or preferred projects might not be taken seriously. However, after they attended one and listed water as their urgent need, they were surprisingly amazed when it was implemented.
She profusely praised the implementers of the devolution governments, stating that, it has changed their semi-arid ward where land was cheapest in the entire Nakuru County, due to lack of water and passable roads. She even appealed for them to be tarmacked.
Mr. Muchai educated wananchi on the importance of being prepared for more disasters due to climate change, including, flooding that might be caused by the anticipated El Nino towards the end of the year.
