Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has hit out at the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) over its petition requesting the Registrar of Political Parties to reject coalition documents presented by the Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition.
In a letter on Monday, the four OKA parties; KANU, Wiper, United Democratic Party (UDP) and The Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) accused the coalition of amending the original document without consulting them.
"It is apparent that the Agreement lodged on the 1st April 2022 was withdrawn and certain clauses amended or altered without the consent of all the parties and signatories," a letter authored by the four parties and addressed to Registrar of Political parties Ann Nderitu read in part.
The group requested the registrar not to formally register the coalition until the issues they raised are fully resolved.
Reacting to the letter, Governor Mutua accused OKA of selfishness, adding that they are contradicting the spirit of unity and together which is the founding pillar of Azimio la Umoja.

As I said the other day, anyone opposed to expansion of Azimio and wants only a three legged stool of three parties to be in charge and disregards everyone else, must have plans of blackmail and entitlement. A three legged stool can collapse if one of the legs breaks off.A four legged one will still stand.
“Anyone engaging in a manner to ferment a crisis and pushing for exclusion of others that would make Azimio stronger, must be working for the competition to weaken a strong coalition that is meant to propel Raila Odinga to presidency,” Mutua’s statement read in part.
Mutua called on Raila and the Azimio leadership not to be intimidated by OKA, arguing that such moves are meant to distract the coalition.
“This political selfishness is the problem that we have faced in this country - of leaders and opportunists who whine and blackmail all the time and who put their personal interests and not those of Wananchi first.
“I urge H.E. Raila Odinga and the other players in AZIMIO not to bow down to blackmail and extortion but to stand firm in championing for democracy, inclusion, politics of transformation, wealth creation, peace and stability in Kenya,” Mutua added.
