Arsenal maintained their position at the top of the table with a 1-1draw against 2nd Placed Liverpool in a Pre - Christmas premier league cracker played at Anfield stadium on Saturday night. 

The Gunners were hoping to end their 11-year wait for a win at Anfield, while Liverpool were aiming to climb to the summit of the Premier League.

Gabriel Magalhaes opened the scoring for the gunners in the fourth minute after he headed a pass from Martin Odegaard past Alisson and after a VAR check, the goal was allowed. 

The goal was the gunner's quickest ever at Anfield stadium and Maghales's first goal in the Premier League this season. 

Liverpool went in search of an equaliser but were denied a penalty after Martin Odegaard's apparent handball.

However, Arsenal's lead was only short lived as Trent Alexander Arnold served Mohamed Salah with a clinical pass the Egyptian dragging Liverpool level in the 29th minute. 

Liverpool started the second half better and went close on a number of occasions.

Alexander-Arnold spurned a brilliant chance to win the game in the 72nd minute as he rattled the crossbar.

Neither side were able to find the winner, as they had to settle for a draw with the result placing Arteta's boys on the summit with 40 points as Liverpool follow with 39 same as Aston Villa both teams having played 18 matches.
