Atwoli is a political genius – Senator Cherargei
By Peter Ochieng
Nandi Senator Samson Arap Cherargei has referred to COTU-Kenya Secretary General Francis Atwoli as a political genius.
Over the years, the Senator said, Atwoli’s genius has made him a survivor of high octane politics, mentioning his ability to ‘camouflage with an easiness of a chameleon in different political eras.’
“Baba @AtwoliDza is a political genius who is a designated survivor in high octane politics of Kenya. He camouflages with an easiness of a chameleon in different political eras. He is a case study in a text book of politics of survival and relevance in Kenya,” the legislature wrote in a post on X.
During the 2022 presidential contest, Atwoli vouched for Raila Odinga, Azimio presidential flag bearer.
He was confident that Odinga would win the presidential race, urging Ruto’s supporters to cut down trees so that he ‘he does not hang himself’ after the announcement of results.
Odinga was of course defeated by President Willaim Ruto. Days after Ruto was sworn in as Kenya’s 5th President, Atwoli declared his unwavering support to the government of the day.
“As I have always said, William Samoei Ruto is an articulate politician. But I had envisioned that he can’t become the fifth President of Kenya, I did not say he can’t be a president,” Atwoli said, then.
“He is a president and I am urging all Kenyans of good will to rally behind him, give him an opportunity to form his government, and support him. Let’s give him time to see if he can reorganise our economy.”
Appearing on Citizen TV’s JKL Show on Wednesday night, he stated that Ruto will easily be reelected for the second term in 2027.
“I can tell you, here and now, with the direction President William Samoei has taken, that trajectory that he is now taking, he will be the president at 10:00 am 2027.”
"If now he does what he does in Western Kenya, he has Musalia Mudavadi, you want to tell me somebody will defeat him. He has brought in Wycliffe Oparanya. That area is covered, others are noise makers. Then go to Nyanza, with Raila," he added.
The COTU boss urged Kenyans to give the President ample time to deliver on his mandate.
