The Bar, Hotels Liquor Traders Association of Kenya (BAHLITA) will collaborate with Keroche Breweries to educate the members of the public on the dangers of consuming illicit brew.
BAHLITA National Vice Chairman Charles Loidoima alleged that some illicit brewers were still operating undercover despite the government’s commitment to eradicate the illegal brewers.
He said his association is educating young people on the dangers of consuming counterfeit goods and instead challenging them to report the sellers to the authorities.
Loidoima was speaking in the Total area of Narok town during the opening of the first Keroche Breweries depot in the area.
He thanked the Kenya Kwanza Administration for resolving the disputes that existed between Keroche Company and the government and allowing the company to operate without many hurdles.
“We agree that the company could have done some wrong things, but it is also good to boost local investors who create so many job opportunities for young people,” he said.
Keroche Breweries Rift Valley Sales Manager Francis Talam said the company has joined the war against illicit brewing by producing cheap quality beer that is affordable to the low-income earning population.
“We have come up with a cheap beer that is affordable to everyone. This is to encourage those who cannot afford the expensive beer to purchase the cheap products,” he said.
Talam reiterated that his company will continue sensitizing bar owners and young generations on the dangers of dealing or consuming illicit brews.
"People should buy goods that are approved by the government because they are safe. Please do not buy any drink that is sold in hidden places because it could be poisonous,” he advised.
