Residents of Bobasi constituency in Kisii County have decried the deplorable state of Igare-Nyacheki road that has paralysed their movements within the region.

Speaking on behalf of the residents after a peaceful demonstration, Vincent Osero stated they would organise monthly demonstrations until their concerns to the area Member of Parliament (MP) are addressed.

Osero called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the tender award process for the construction of the road claiming that the legislator had earlier announced that the construction works had been set to commence.

The Igare-Nyacheki road has been plagued by numerous challenges including inadequate drainage making it impassable.

In addition, the residents called upon relevant authorities such as the Kenya Rural Roads Authority and the Cabinet Secretary for Roads, to assess the state of the road and ensure appropriate actions are taken.

The residents threated to initiate a process to have the local leader impeached for neglecting his duties.

Similarly, another resident Patrick Nyakundi, said the ongoing heavy rains had made the road impassable adding that the residents' pleas for repair and maintenance had fallen on deaf ears on numerous occasions.

Former Councilor, Moguche Ogwacho noted the poor condition of the road had led to delayed treatment for sick residents and urged the legislator to resign if he cannot address the welfare of the residents.
