Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang has promised to promote staff across departments when their dates are due.

Sang said there have been a number of challenges which hinders promotion of staff in entire county departments but was working closely with County Public Service Board to ensure no staff is left out of promotion when their time demands.

The Governor said he has instructed Heads of Department to furnish County Public Service with clear status of their employee’s due promotion dates, clearly stating their last dates of promotion.

Sang asked employees paid by the County Government of Nandi, especially those stagnated for several years, to be patient as he works out a permanent formula with the Public Service Board on their future promotion dates.

“I promise that before my tenure expires, all employees should earn their automatic promotion when their dates are due as a strategy to eliminate cases of stagnation,” the Governor told Nandi County Doctors, Nurses and Clinical offices at Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex Stadium in Kapsabet town.

However, Sang also revealed that he has engaged the Public Service Board to design a criteria of promoting staff on the basis of their exemplary performance as a way of motivating them.

“Employees with outstanding performance should be enabled to earn promotion anytime even if their dates aren’t due as a way of motivating them,” Governor Sang proposed.

Despite several challenges, Sang said his government has made notable progress in health since he took over office.

He pointed out that medical supplies during the last five years in Nandi cost Sh 60 million but due to expanded infrastructure and staff medical supplies now stand at over Sh 240 million.

“Our Kapsabet Referral Hospital has a functional theatre and even Nandi Hills Sub-County Hospital which were not there before,” Sang revealed.

According to him, records of Nandi residents seeking referrals at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Uasin Gishu has reduced due to improved health care system in Nandi.

He said statistics also show that Nandi residents seeking medical services from public health facilities had increased due improved services.

Sang promised to complete all ongoing development projects in health sector during the remaining years of his term.

“Take note that I am starting projects in health sector but I promise to complete all ongoing projects led by Mother and Baby Wing which has so far cost close to half billion shillings,” he said.

Governor Sang said that Sub-County hospitals at Kapsengere, Kobujoi, Kaptumo, Tindiret, Kabiyet, Mosoriot, Chepterwai and Mosop will soon have complete operational surgery wings as a strategy of taking services closer to people.

“I am committed to leave better, functional and improved health care system,” Governor Sang promised.

About 150 Doctors, Specialised Nurses and Clinical Officers were given promotion letters.

Kenya Medical Practioners Pharmacists Dentist Union North Rift Chairman Darwin Ambuga also present admitted that it was a major breakthrough after 66 Doctors out of 71 in Nandi County got their promotion letters.

He regretted that some promoted doctors had stagnated for the last ten years with no clear reasons for their stagnation.

Ambuga noted that KMPDU will continue engaging Nandi County Government to ensure their members are paid well and on time and their working environment improved.
